The Guest List

Introduction:  Going into this I was a little worried that I would not like the book as I have read another book (The Paris Apartment) by the author and absolutely hated it. Like most books I read, I went in completely blind. Basically, the overall gist is that a rich couple is getting married on this mysterious island with a tragic background. The bridal party comes to the island a few days prior to the wedding itself and big secrets from the past start being revealed and everyone is more connected than they initially thought.  I had to keep a list of the characters in my head to keep track of everyone involved and who had their own POVs. The point-of-view (POV) changes constantly between various members of the bridal party and the host (Aiofe) who owns the house on the island.  Jules, Will (briefly I think), Johnno, Olivia, Hannah, Aiofe each had their own POV. There was also a POV that was written in third person that took place the night of the wedding. Everyone else’...

The Midnight Library

Image
Introduction The Midnight Library in short is about someone who wants to take their own life and ultimately does. The book begins with a day or so prior and each chapter begins with "12 hours before" and describes some things that basically lead to Nora wanting to unalive herself. After doing so she ends up in this purgatory-like location that is The Midnight Library. Once here, she sees an older teacher who runs the library. All the books are various timelines/lives of Nora's that are from various decisions she could have made (i.e. butterfly effect) Some books are about if she kept swimming, if they continued the band, if she was still with her ex husband, if she had actually going out with that guy who runs in her neighborhood. Each story essentially had the same formula. Nora would show up, be super confused until she figured things out and then she would immediately start whining again and then be yeeted from the timeline back to the library. Each story was more bori...

The Assassin’s Blade

Image
Introduction: The Assassin’s Blade is a five story novella compilation style prequel to the Throne of Glass series. It consists of The Assassin and the Pirate Lord , The Assassin and the Healer , The Assassin and the Desert , The Assassin and the Underworld, and The Assassin and the Empire .  I do have to say that I agree with SJM’s order of reading ToG with this being third. If I had read this first I would not have liked it.  (Even though I have problems with the last story I did enjoy it overall) I would not have any reason to like the dumb bratty teenager that is the main character. There would also be no reason for me to be interested in Celaena’s relationship with Sam OR wanting to know how Sam dies. If you do read this first you can 100% tell that Sam is going to die. It is foreshadowed HARD - to the point that I assumed it would happen much sooner than it actually did. Examples of what made me think so in various parts: 10% - “I suppose if we’re going to...

Introduction!

Hello! I’d like to start this out by introducing myself! 👋  I’m sure by the title you’ve gathered than my name is Amanda. I am almost 29 and I go by she/her/they/them pronouns.  I’ve been an avid reader since I was in elementary school. As the years went on I started reading less and less as I found it more difficult to focus. In 2022 I realized that ebooks make my reading life *much* easier. I figured if I was going to be on scrolling anyway I might as well be reading! I started out by reading on my phone and my iPad and realized I could focus so much easier! That year I set my reading goal to 10 books since I was just getting back into reading. Never thought I’d get anywhere close. I surpassed that goal by a LOT! I read 65 books in 2022!! I surprised the hell out of myself.  Midway through 2023 I got a kindle paperwhite and it’s also made a huge difference. At first I didn’t notice any improvement with headaches - actually the first week I had it my headaches wer...
